This course is designed for Florida students preparing for the B.E.S.T. Algebra 1 End-of-Course assessment. It teaches the underlying Algebra 1 content tested on the exam while also preparing students for the assessment format, item types, timing demands, and performance expectations.
Students begin with orientation to the Florida B.E.S.T. Algebra 1 EOC, including the assessment blueprint, reporting categories, item types, calculator use, and a standards-aligned diagnostic. From there, the course develops the full sequence of core Algebra 1 skills in a practical order, moving from foundations to application and review.
Major content areas include:
- Algebra foundations: number operations, order of operations, properties of real numbers, exponents, and proportional reasoning
- Expressions, equations, and inequalities: simplifying expressions, solving one-variable equations, solving and graphing inequalities, and analyzing solution sets
- Linear relationships: slope, graphing, writing equations, interpreting intercepts, modeling with linear functions, and solving systems of equations and inequalities
- Functions: function notation, domain and range, comparing representations, sequences, and transformations
- Exponential relationships: recognizing exponential change, writing models, and interpreting percent growth and decay
- Polynomials and quadratics: polynomial operations, factoring, graphing parabolas, solving quadratic equations, and interpreting quadratic models in context
- Data and modeling: scatter plots, distributions, measures of center and variability, and choosing function models for data
The course is built for students who need both concept mastery and test performance practice. Lessons include worked examples, guided practice, independent practice, short quizzes, cumulative review, error analysis, and original state-test-style questions with full answer explanations. Students also practice explaining their reasoning for multiple-choice and constructed-response tasks.
Special emphasis is placed on the skills that often affect EOC scores:
- solving multi-step equations and inequalities accurately
- interpreting graphs, tables, and equations across representations
- writing and comparing linear, exponential, and quadratic models
