This course is designed for students studying or preparing for the T Level in Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction, especially learners who need clear structure across the core curriculum, occupational specialism expectations, employer-set project work and workplace readiness.
The programme begins with diagnostic assessment and personal study planning, then builds through the knowledge and skills students need to perform well in class, in assessments and on industry placement. It covers the construction industry, health and safety, sustainability, building technology, technical drawings, surveying, planning, measurement, documentation and design problem solving. Later modules focus on employer-set project methods, professional communication, workplace behaviours, reflective practice and final assessment preparation.
Throughout the course, students do more than revise facts. They learn how to apply construction knowledge to realistic scenarios, explain decisions clearly, interpret technical information accurately and produce evidence that matches assessment demands.
- Core industry understanding: roles, project stages, procurement, regulation, stakeholders and the built environment.
- Technical knowledge: materials, structures, building services, sustainability, construction science and building performance.
- Applied technical skills: reading and producing drawings, scale work, measurement, quantity take-off, site analysis, surveying and documentation.
- Project performance: analysing briefs, generating ideas, developing justified proposals, coordinating evidence and evaluating outcomes.
- Professional readiness: written and verbal communication, teamwork, meeting conduct, reflective practice and placement expectations.
- Assessment preparation: worked examples, guided practice, independent tasks, original exam-style questions, timed drills, quizzes, cumulative review and mistake-log activities.
Students will work from foundation concepts through to applied outcomes. Each area is taught with concrete explanation, practice and review so learners can identify common mistakes, improve accuracy and build confidence in technical reasoning.
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
- Explain key construction industry knowledge, including regulation, safety, sustainability and project processes.
- Interpret and communicate technical information using drawings, specifications, measurements and structured written responses.
- Apply design, surveying and planning knowledge to workplace-style scenarios and project tasks.
- Prepare effectively for written and practical assessments using targeted revision and timed practice.
- Present themselves more confidently for industry placement through stronger professional communication and workplace awareness.
- Connect classroom learning to employer expectations and progression into occupational specialism study, further training or employment.
This makes the course particularly useful for learners who want a practical, assessment-aware and placement-relevant support programme rather than a narrow exam technique course.
