This course is designed for Scottish students preparing for Higher Physics who need a clear, thorough, and practical route through the SQA-aligned curriculum. It combines topic mastery, problem solving, practical skills, and exam technique so students can improve both their understanding and their performance in assessments.
Students begin with course orientation, a diagnostic assessment, and a revision plan based on their current strengths and gaps. The programme then teaches the full underlying physics content in a structured order, with regular opportunities to practise calculations, interpret graphs, use correct subject vocabulary, and answer SQA-style questions clearly.
- Our Dynamic Universe: motion, vectors, graphs, acceleration, forces, momentum, energy, power, gravitation, orbital motion, relativity, redshift, and cosmology
- Particles and Waves: the Standard Model, nuclear radiation, half-life, fission, fusion, wave behaviour, refraction, interference, spectra, photons, and quantum ideas
- Electricity: charge, current, potential difference, resistance, circuit analysis, power, internal resistance, electric fields, capacitance, semiconductors, diodes, LEDs, and transistors
- Practical and mathematical skills: investigations, variables, measurement, uncertainty, data processing, graph analysis, equation handling, unit conversion, and significant figures
- Assessment preparation: command words, marking guidance, full-mark calculation layout, timed drills, retrieval practice, answer improvement, and mixed-topic practice papers
Throughout the course, students work with worked examples, guided practice, independent practice, short quizzes, and original exam-style questions. They also learn how to analyse mistakes, improve weak responses, and build a mistake log that makes revision more focused and efficient.
By the end of the programme, students should be able to:
- Explain Higher Physics concepts accurately using correct scientific vocabulary
- Apply equations confidently and show complete working in calculations
- Interpret graphs, data, and experimental evidence with clear reasoning
- Handle uncertainty, practical-method questions, and assignment-style tasks more effectively
- Recognise what SQA-style questions require and structure answers to gain marks
- Manage time in assessments and review their work strategically
- Complete mixed-topic practice assessments and use feedback to target remaining weaknesses
This is a preparation course with a strong emphasis on understanding first, then performance. It does not rely on shortcuts or memorised tricks alone. Instead, it helps students build the knowledge, habits, and exam confidence needed to succeed in Higher Physics.
