This course is designed for IB Diploma Programme students taking Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation SL who need complete syllabus coverage, stronger conceptual understanding, and clear preparation for exams and the Internal Assessment. It combines curriculum teaching with practical assessment training so students know not only how to solve problems, but also how to present answers in the way IB examiners reward.
The program begins with a diagnostic assessment and personal study plan. Students identify strengths and weaknesses across number, algebra, functions, statistics, probability, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus basics, then convert that information into a target-grade strategy, revision calendar, and mistake-log system.
Core mathematics content is taught from the ground up and developed into applied problem solving. Students work through financial mathematics, algebraic methods, functions, modelling, descriptive statistics, probability, probability distributions, regression, hypothesis testing, geometry, trigonometry, and introductory calculus. Technology use is built into the course so students can use approved graphing tools and calculators accurately for regression, distributions, graph analysis, and numerical methods.
The course also addresses the specific demands of IB assessment. Students learn command terms, paper structure, assessment objectives, grade descriptors, mathematical communication, and common marking patterns. This helps them earn method marks, avoid preventable presentation errors, and respond appropriately to different question types under timed conditions.
A dedicated Internal Assessment strand helps students move from topic selection to a workable exploration. Students learn how to choose a suitable question, define variables, gather or generate data, select appropriate mathematics, interpret results, reflect critically, and present a coherent final piece that meets IB criteria.
Practice is a central part of the program. Students complete guided examples, independent exercises, original exam-style questions, quizzes, cumulative review, timed drills, full paper simulations, and post-test error analysis. Every stage is designed to strengthen transfer to unfamiliar questions rather than memorisation of isolated procedures.
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Master the full IB AI SL syllabus with secure foundations and applied understanding
- Use graphing technology and calculators efficiently and correctly
- Interpret data, models, and statistical outputs with precision
- Communicate mathematical reasoning clearly using correct notation, units, and structure
- Handle unfamiliar, multi-step problems with appropriate strategy selection
- Plan, draft, and refine a stronger Internal Assessment exploration
- Revise strategically using diagnostics, spaced retrieval, cumulative practice, and mistake tracking
- Perform more effectively under timed exam conditions through paper practice and mark-scheme review
This is a comprehensive preparation program for students aiming to improve classroom performance, strengthen IA quality, and raise exam results through systematic, concrete, and syllabus-aligned study.
